The Airport Encounter on June 28, 2024
John Jay Niebuhr was mortally wounded on June 28th, 2024. John Jay was forty years old at the time of his death and a resident of Palm Bay in Brevard County, Florida.
Niebuhr was born in the United States of America and at all relevant times, was an American citizen. On June 28, 2024 his status was lawful and he was not committing any crime.
He was taken too soon by the world he loved so dearly and from those that so dearly loved him too. Niebuhr did not survive the brief, thirty minute encounter with law enforcement that resulted in a violent storm of gunfire. He was fatally wounded with a merciless sentence that would forever silence his life's story, leaving behind an unspoken void that echoes with loss, despair and grief for generations to come.
It was a sunny Friday morning in Brevard County, Florida, when John Jay Niebuhr went to the nearby town by the Melbourne-Orlando International Airport in his community. He left home with his decor lights still on and illuminated, for he would be back shortly.
Just Another Day Would Be The Last
On the morning of June 28, 2024, Niebuhr's travels took him to the unsecured and publicly accessible areas near the Melbourne-Orlando International Airport (MLB) in Brevard County. MLB operates as a public airport serving the surrounding communities. The cities of Melbourne and Palm Bay are adjacent and approximately six miles apart.
Niebuhr made a few business calls while he sat parked by MLB, including to his bank. His first phone call of the day was to a body spa in Melbourne.
He was in the company of his four cherished animals.
He was with his beloved small dog named Beautiful, along with his three cherished feline cats named Pearl, Galaxy and Opal. John always made the safety of his animals his highest priority while they were in his care.
John got into his truck that day, unaware it was his last efforts of free will.

Niebuhr's Florida driver's license, vehicle registration, tag, plates and insurance were all current and valid, and he maintained a Safe Driver designation issued by the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles.
On June 28, 2024 Niebuhr was in his Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi lifted, tinted truck with his small dog, three cats and dry cleaning.
Niebuhr stepped into his truck that morning never knowing it would be his final act of free will, unaware that these ordinary moments would be his last. John never got out of his truck on his own again.
Just weeks earlier John Jay celebrated his fortieth birthday milestone, surrounded by love, hope and promise for the future. He texted his family messages of gratitude, calling it the "best birthday ever," with an accompanying photo of all the "amazing" gifts he had received.
The day before the unthinkable, he messaged his family, just a simple ordinary exchange, never knowing it would be the one final thread connecting their lives. A fleeting moment, now frozen in time, that would become the last memory of their beloved one, a goodbye that neither of them knew they were saying.
The deep, eternal wounds of the loss of John to his loved ones echoes in his silence, an ache of sorrow into the stillness of forever. A profound everlasting grief that will follow throughout the rest of their lives and beyond, into the quiet eternity that pierces to the core of a world that really can be so heartless.

The above photo shows Harry Sutton Road which is a public access road in Melbourne, FL. To the right entrance is the parking lot to the Hyatt Place Hotel. To the left entrance is the final parking place of John Jay Niebuhr. A stop he never knew would be his last.
On the day of June 28th, 2024, John's journey was brutally cut short. He would never go home again.
The life within him was tragically taken and gone forever, he would never get to breathe and live again. He never got to say goodbye, never got to see another sunrise or hold the hands of those whom he loved again.
A punishment so severe, stealing his breath, promise, future, silencing his voice and life forever. The man who dreamed and laughed would never breathe again. Forever gone, forever broken, leaving behind silence where his heart used to beat and a world left longing for what might have been.
A life was silenced that had only just reached its prime. The world lost him forever, and within him, an entire lifetime of future that would never unfold. A life full of more promise and dreams that would never come true. And all that remains is unbearable ache of loss, the unexplainable questions of why, echoing into a silence that answers nothing. And in that silence, the world is forever dimmer without his light and forever changed by the loss of one soul who should still be here.
Among some of John Jay Niebuhr’s final words were to "Ask God."
John lived his faith until his final breath. A man with a heart tattooed over his own, a cross within it, and the sweetest soul, simply searching for justice, mercy, and peace. Among John’s final words were to, "Ask God," and resonate far beyond their simple plea. They unravel the very freedoms we have fought so hard to defend and been entrusted to protect. These words stand as a solemn testament to the profound injustice of a moment when freedom was betrayed in silence and when the scales of justice were so horrifically tipped against what is right. In that silence, we are left with questions that reach beyond us, leaving unanswered questions for our Higher Power, as we grapple with a failure that shakes the very foundation of our systems and belief in justice, as they so devastatingly failed us here below on Earth and as we seek understanding and truth beyond this world.
